Sam and Sally Knight were high school and college sweethearts. In 1979 after graduating from college they were married and moved to Lake Wales to begin their careers in teaching. They were welcomed into the Holy Spirit Parish and our Lord blessed them with two daughters who grew up to be teachers.
In 2002 when Sally and Sam were beginning to make plans for retirement they decided that they would like to spend their golden years serving our Blessed Lord and their parish family at Holy Spirit. With the blessing of the pastor Father Frank Cerio they entered into diaconate formation. In 2006 Bishop Wenski commissioned Sally as a certified lay minister and in 2007 Sam was ordained as a deacon.
The focus of Deacon Sam’s ministry is “outside the walls of the Church.” He takes communion to the incarcerated, the sick and the homebound. Sally’s ministry is inside the Church. She serves as a catechist for the youth of our parish. She also schedules and helps train the Eucharistic Ministers of our parish. She also schedules and helps train the Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors. On Sunday mornings they both help with hospitality ministry by preparing and serving coffee and doughnuts after the eight o’clock Mass.
